Our Story

Sense8 Crate was born in 2021, in the height of a global pandemic. A mother of 2 early grade-schoolers, Jenny found herself slowly losing sight of the moment she’d been both dreading and longing for since having children — an empty house for 6 straight hours!

Instead, like most of the world, Jenny was managing life in times of a global shut-down. Searching for opportunities that felt “good-for-the-soul,” but was easy to plan and fun to execute was the mission. How could we all manage this difficult time of dedicated attention to our children and fill the learning gap children were experiencing? Where is the fun, easy, and educational learning that does not induce more stress?

Community Need Identified!

In a previous life, Jenny was a successful researcher which was both rewarding and demanding. Not wanting to fully let go of the most rewarding job of all (a full-time mom), going back to the traditional 9-5 corporate world didn’t feel like a desirable choice. Adding to the complexity, Jenny is the mom to two, uniquely different kiddos. Her oldest daughter is autistic with very severe anxiety and sensory needs, which makes a traditional job more challenging. Finding something personally rewarding, while not compromising the attention her family needed was key.

Let the soul searching begin.

Through many years of accompanying her daughter to therapies, Jenny learned a thing or two about sensory integration. We spent many hours learning about sensory inputs, and most importantly dabbled in many sensory experiments to find the most soothing to her body.

Sensory integration does not have to be exclusive to formalized therapeutic treatment. In fact, it is inherently therapeutic for all bodies, regardless of defined “need.” The world was starting to catch onto this notion and sensory bins were popping up in everyday settings. In fact, another local mom had started a sensory bin business and Jenny’s intrigue was piqued!

A plan is hatched.

Sense8 Crate was not the first sensory venture. Initially, Jenny joined a neighborhood mom to help spread awareness and growth of a sensory bin business she had developed. It was brilliant - but it soon became apparent they were operating two tandem businesses, with separate visions.. So…off Jenny went with new ideas and plansand…

Sense8 Crate was born!

Sense8 Crate is a passion project that fuels Jenny’s soul, and eases the bodies, while educating the minds of kiddos community-wide. And the bonus is, Jenny is still at home with her kids, so WIN, WIN!
